What we believe in

Mission

Our mission is to offer perfect marine transport and handling solutions to our trading partners, while satisfying all international and administrative regulations in a stringent and highly professional manner both on board and ashore. This also includes strict adherence to the guidelines and regulations of non-governmental organizations and industry bodies such as the OCIMF. The main goal of our mission is to provide the highest quality of safety, environmental policy and security in everything we do.

Vision

Our vision is to remain known as a reliable partner to industry in all aspects of the marine transportation of bulk liquids worldwide, which includes crude and refined products, in particular "dirty" and "clean" products. With experience gained in this business since 1955, we are skilled at always staying in tune with international markets and taking the rough with the smooth.

Values

The company's main resources are divided evenly between the material worth of our fleet and the human capital of our personnel. Our staff are well educated, trained and competent, consisting of a young team of experienced and practically oriented officers and engineers who are highly focused on the future challenges of technology, both on board our fleet and back home in our offices. This is evidenced by our highly impressive record of key performance indicators throughout the entire fleet, reflecting the highest quality standards of safety, environmental policy and security. The qualities we value in this business are commitment, honesty and keeping an open mind.

Philosophy

Staying focused and on the right course we adhere to company policies, while keeping an open mind for alternative solutions that may lead to the same objective. To the benefit of our clients and partners the main priority in our company is to strictly follow or 'live' our Ernst Jacob Management System Manual in all aspects of our day-to-day work. This manual is permanently under review and improved as necessary by our highly motivated professional staff, both ashore and shipboard, who tender suggestions and corrections pertaining to their respective roles in the business.

Jacob – The Shipping Group practices a "Just Culture" onboard vessels and ashore in our offices. This means that front-line operators, crew members and others are not disciplined for actions, omissions or decisions taken by them that are commensurate with their experience and training. Nevertheless, gross negligence, willful violations and destructive acts are not tolerated.
